Description
1965 MOONEY M20-E - N990JD Serial No. 655 ' Lycoming IO-360-A1A ' Hartzell Prop ======================================= Built in Kerrville, Texas and test-flown on March 25, 1965, this Mooney M20-E is a rare example of American general aviation engineering at its finest - a light aircraft that set performance and efficiency standards still respected today. With over six decades of documented history, N990JD is one of the most thoroughly maintained and documented Mooneys flying in Southern California. ---------------------------------------------------------------- A THOROUGHBRED DESIGN ---------------------------------------------------------------- The Mooney M20-E, known as the "Super 21," was the performance leader of its era. Featuring a distinctive forward-swept tail, a low-wing aluminum airframe, and retractable tricycle landing gear, it was engineered to be faster and more fuel-efficient than virtually any competing aircraft of its class. At cruise, the M20-E routinely outpaces many larger, more powerful aircraft - a testament to Mooney's obsession with aerodynamic efficiency and clean design. ---------------------------------------------------------------- POWERPLANT AND SYSTEMS ---------------------------------------------------------------- N990JD is powered by a Lycoming IO-360-A1A four-cylinder fuel-injected engine producing 200 horsepower, paired with a Hartzell constant-speed propeller. The engine underwent a complete factory-standard major overhaul in 2014 and has 495.5 SMOH. The aircraft has been meticulously serviced at every interval since. The airframe and powerplant together carry over 4,499 hours of total flight time - accumulated across more than 60 years of careful, documented operation. ---------------------------------------------------------------- MODERN AVIONICS IN A CLASSIC AIRFRAME ---------------------------------------------------------------- In 2021, N990JD received a comprehensive Garmin glass panel upgrade at Leading Edge Avionics in Santa Ana, California. The cockpit now features a Garmin GFC 500 autopilot, dual Garmin GI 275 electronic flight displays (primary ADI + standby HSI), a Garmin GNS 530W WAAS GPS/NAV/COMM, the retained GNS 430W, and a Garmin GTX 345 ADS-B Out transponder. This modern suite gives the aircraft full IFR capability and situational awareness equal to aircraft costing many times more. ---------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITION AND HISTORY ---------------------------------------------------------------- N990JD wears its original DuPont Imron paint scheme of white, medium blue, and dark blue - professionally applied in 1988 and still striking on the ramp. All logbooks have been fully preserved from 1965 to present, representing an exceptionally rare and complete maintenance history. Annual inspections have been performed without interruption, as well as between annual services with most recently by General Aviation Company at Fullerton Airport (KFUL) in May of 2026. This aircraft is operated under FAA Part 91 in the Normal category and is fully IFR-equipped and airworthy. The aircraft does have damage history including a prop strike most recently in May 2025. There was no airframe damage at that time. ========================================================= YEAR: 1965 TOTAL TIME: 4499.86 hrs. ENGINE SMOH: 495.5 hrs. PROP SMOH 6.7hrs HOME BASE: KFUL This aircraft is being brokered by Ben's Motorworks of Fullerton, CA. Feel free to call or text.
