Frequently Asked Questions — Evektor
Is the Evektor SportStar a reliable LSA for flight training?
The Evektor SportStar is one of the most proven LSA trainers available, with nearly 50 years of Evektor manufacturing experience and 1,300+ aircraft in 50 countries. The all-metal construction is extremely durable in the training environment — much tougher than composite alternatives. The Rotax 912ULS provides 100 HP with excellent reliability. The newer Harmony model improved nose gear steering and overall stability.
What problems do Evektor SportStar owners report?
Reported issues are relatively minor: brake adjustments, trim relay replacements, and Rotax 912 fuel pump service bulletins. One design quirk — the right rudder pedal can accidentally contact the passenger's left pedal, requiring careful footwork. The fuel system requires compliance with Rotax SBs. Overall, the SportStar has a clean service record compared to many LSA competitors, which is why training operators favor it.
Evektor Harmony vs SportStar Max — what changed?
The Harmony (2011+) redesigned the nose gear for more stable and responsive ground handling, addressing the biggest complaint about earlier SportStars. The steering linkage was moved through the floorboard with an aviation-style coupler. Interior refinements and updated avionics options completed the upgrade. If choosing between a used SportStar Max and a Harmony, the Harmony's improved ground handling is worth the premium.
