Beechcraft Bonanza 36 Aircraft under $500,000

Under $500k for a piston single is the high-end price band — typically modern composite singles (Cirrus SR22/SR22T from mid-2000s+), late-model Bonanza or Mooney with full glass, low-time airframes with current engine status and full mandate compliance. Highest acquisition cost in piston class but lowest pre-buy discovery risk.

About the Beechcraft Bonanza 36

The Beechcraft Bonanza 36 is the stretched, six-seat straight-tail Bonanza — the volume seller of the family and the only Bonanza still in production. Introduced in 1968 and built today as the G36, the 36 features twin aft doors for easy cabin and cargo loading, club seating and a Continental IO-520 or IO-550 engine. It cruises around 176 knots with strong useful load and is one of the most practical owner-flown family aircraft on the market. The A36 is the long-running steam- gauge/early-glass version; the G36 is the modern Garmin G1000 version.

Buying a Used Beechcraft Bonanza 36

Every Beechcraft Bonanza 36 faces a mandatory 1,700-hour overhaul, so the single biggest factor in used price is how much time remains before that overhaul is due — a fresh-overhaul airframe can be worth a large share of the $35,000 overhaul cost more than one approaching its limit.

What to check before buying

  • Time to overhaul — hours and years remaining to the 1,700-hour limit; this dominates resale value more than total time.
  • Logbook completeness — continuous, gap-free maintenance records; missing logs cut value and complicate financing.
  • Damage history — any prior accident, hard landing or blade strike; cross-check the registration against accident databases.
  • Avionics — a glass panel vs steam gauges materially changes price.
  • Pre-buy inspection — always commission an independent inspection by a type-experienced mechanic before money changes hands.

Frequently Asked Questions — Beechcraft Bonanza 36

What is the difference between the A36 and G36 Bonanza?
The A36 is the long-fuselage, six-seat Bonanza with double aft doors; the G36 is the current production version of the same airframe fitted with a full Garmin G1000-series glass flight deck. Both are six-seat single-engine pistons.
How much does a Beechcraft Bonanza A36 cost?
Used A36 and G36 prices depend mainly on engine time, avionics (legacy panel versus Garmin glass) and model year. See the live price range and median above.
What is the Bonanza 36 cruise speed and range?
The Bonanza 36 cruises around 176 knots on its Continental IO-520 or IO-550 engine; range varies with fuel and load but is typically well over 700 nautical miles.
How many seats does the Bonanza 36 have?
Six, with two double aft doors that make the cabin easy to load — the main reason the 36 was stretched from the earlier four-to-five-seat Bonanzas.
What is the B36TC and A36TC?
The A36TC and later B36TC are turbocharged versions of the Model 36, giving better high-altitude and hot-and-high performance than the normally aspirated A36.
Is the Bonanza 36 still in production?
Yes. The Model 36 is the only Bonanza still built, currently as the Garmin-equipped G36 by Beechcraft (Textron Aviation).
What engine does the Bonanza A36 use?
Most A36 and G36 Bonanzas use a Continental IO-550 (earlier A36s used the IO-520), a six-cylinder fuel-injected piston engine.
Is the Bonanza 36 a good family airplane?
It is one of the most respected six-seat singles, valued for cabin access, load-carrying and resale strength. As always, condition, engine time and airworthiness-directive compliance drive value and safety.
