About the Beechcraft Debonair 33

The Beechcraft Debonair is the original name (1960-1967) for the straight-tail Model 33 — a less-trim-deluxe variant of the Bonanza launched to compete on price with the Piper Comanche. Beechcraft renamed it the Bonanza 33 in 1968, but the Debonair name persists for early aircraft and has its own collector following. Same airframe lineage as the Bonanza 33: Continental IO-470 engine, ~168 kt cruise, four seats. (Cross-link: see also [Bonanza 33](/models/beechcraft-bonanza-33).)

Buying a Used Beechcraft Debonair 33

Every Beechcraft Debonair 33 faces a mandatory 1,700-hour overhaul, so the single biggest factor in used price is how much time remains before that overhaul is due.

What to check before buying

  • Time to overhaul — hours and years remaining to the 1,700-hour limit; this dominates resale value more than total time.
  • Logbook completeness — continuous, gap-free maintenance records; missing logs cut value and complicate financing.
  • Damage history — any prior accident, hard landing or blade strike; cross-check the registration against accident databases.
  • Avionics — a glass panel vs steam gauges materially changes price.
  • Pre-buy inspection — always commission an independent inspection by a type-experienced mechanic before money changes hands.

Frequently Asked Questions — Beechcraft Debonair 33

What is the Beechcraft Debonair?
The Debonair is the original 1960-1967 name for the straight-tail Beechcraft Model 33. Beechcraft introduced it as a lower-cost, plainer-trim alternative to the V-tail Bonanza, with the same airframe and a conventional tail.
Is the Debonair the same as the Bonanza 33?
Yes — it is the same straight-tail Model 33 airframe. 'Debonair' was the early marketing name (1960-1967); from 1968 the line was unified under the Bonanza name as the E33, F33 and F33A. They are one model with two historical names.
What are the Beechcraft Debonair models?
The Debonair 33 and the successive A33, B33 and C33 (1960-1967). Later straight-tail 33s carried the Bonanza name (E33/F33/F33A).
Is a Debonair cheaper than a Bonanza?
Early Debonairs are generally among the most affordable straight-tail Beechcraft singles, since they were the plainer-trim entry models. Condition, engine time and avionics matter more than the badge. See the live price range and median above.
What engine does the Beechcraft Debonair use?
Most Debonairs use the Continental IO-470; later straight-tail 33s (badged Bonanza) moved to the larger IO-520 and IO-550.
